Michael Iacovelli

PT, DC

Michael is a physical therapist and chiropractor whose care combines manual therapy of the soft tissue and joints with teaching patients what is causing their problem, how to get better, and how to prevent it from coming back. He earned his physical therapy degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1986 and his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer West in 1996.

Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1986. Moving to California after graduation, he worked in an orthopedic hospital setting and in an outpatient clinic for sports medicine and orthopedic injuries. He completed the Folsom Long Term Manual Therapy program, a 15-month manual therapy training with international techniques for treating orthopedic injuries.

Michael continued his exploration of manual therapy in 1996, attending Palmer West College of Chiropractic, where he graduated Valedictorian with a Doctorate of Chiropractic.

Michael and his wife, Lisa Iacovelli, PT, created the Physical Medicine Center of Marin, a physical therapy corporation located in Mill Valley.

Michael’s approach to treatment involves manual therapy of the soft tissue and joint mobilization. This may include chiropractic manipulation when it would improve the patient’s condition. He focuses on teaching patients about their condition, what is causing it, and how to get better and prevent recurrence, or how to manage symptoms if they do come up.

Whether it is sports activity or everyday tasks, Michael evaluates movement mechanics, looking at possible contributions to the source of injury or pain.

Michael is the greatest! I recommend him to everyone I know. On the occasions that I have neck or shoulder problems, he comes to the rescue.B.T.

Lisa Iacovelli, PT, PRPC, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She initially focused her postgraduate studies on orthopedics and manual therapy, completing the Folsom Long Term Manual Therapy Program in 1991, a 15-month intensive training in Norwegian and Australian manual therapy techniques.

In 1993, Lisa shifted her focus to women’s health and pelvic floor dysfunction, driven by a passion for supporting birthing women. She became doula certified to provide hands-on care during labor and delivery, volunteered at the Marin Birth Center, and completed Elizabeth Davis’ Intensive Midwifery Training. Recognizing the critical need for pelvic floor therapy, she immersed herself in advanced studies in evaluation and treatment.

In 1995, Lisa founded Marin’s first clinic specializing in women’s health and pelvic floor dysfunction, actively educating the medical community on the role of physical therapy in treating these conditions. The following year, after the birth of her first child at home in Mill Valley, she and her husband, Michael Iacovelli, PT, DC, established the Physical Medicine Center of Marin, a multidisciplinary clinic providing expert, compassionate care for orthopedic, women’s health, and pelvic floor disorders. As awareness grew, Lisa expanded her practice to treat both men and women experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction.

Lisa has continued to advance her expertise:

  • 2007 to 2013: Founded and organized The Marin Pelvic Pain Group, a multidisciplinary collaboration of physicians and allied health professionals focused on improving care for pelvic pain patients.
  • 2015: Completed a year-long study in the Integrated Systems Model (ISM) with Diane Lee, PT, refining her ability to identify and treat primary drivers of movement dysfunction, significantly improving patient outcomes.
  • 2021: Achieved Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (PRPC), recognizing her advanced proficiency in treating pelvic floor disorders.

Today, Lisa remains one of Marin’s leading providers of pelvic floor physical therapy, sought after by medical professionals for her expertise in complex cases involving obstetrics, gynecology, and orthopedics. Her dedication to patient care, ongoing education, and collaboration within the medical community continues to shape the field of pelvic health rehabilitation.

Lisa has been a wonderful resource, and an amazing practitioner for my health and well-being. She has assisted my healing over a long period of time, with her kindness, patience, and skill.S.K.
