Scoliosis Rehab

Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine.  It is often mild and undetected.  If you have scoliosis and experience back pain, the scoliosis may influence where pain occurs because of its restricted motion, but scoliosis itself does not cause pain.  Spinal pain may be related to a strain of muscular or ligamentous tissue, or degenerative changes of the spinal components.  Treatment is available utilizing exercise, stretching, and education of proper activity and body mechanics.

For some individuals, their scoliosis is more severe and curvature of the spine is progressing.  These individuals should be evaluated with x-ray, and may require bracing, and specific corrective exercises to counter the progression of spinal curves.

GOALS OF TREATMENT
•    Knowledge of independent postural correction of trunk asymmetries
•    Improve trunk alignment and muscle strength
•    Reduce pain
•    Understand activities and postures that promote curve progression or may injure your spine
•    Improve lung function
