Pubic Symphysis Separation

The pubic symphysis is the joint in the front of your pelvis, in the center of your pubic bone.

During pregnancy, the ligaments of the pelvis stretch and loosen to make way to birth the baby.  For some women, this can cause too much separation in this joint, causing significant pain with walking and turning in bed.  Poor core strength and poor mechanics can exacerbate the issue.

Physical therapy treatment will teach you how to protect your joint during all your activities, align pelvic joints, and teach you core exercises and muscle release to reduce further stress on the pelvis.  Also, you may be fitted with a pelvic belt, to support the joint during the rest of your pregnancy.
