Sacroiliac Pain

The sacroiliac joints at the base of the spine are common areas of soreness and pain during pregnancy.

Due to hormonal changes which create laxity in the ligaments supporting these joints, they can become injured with regular daily activities.  Postural habits and poor body mechanics may also cause strain.  The growing baby also can place pressure or a stretch on these ligaments; this may become painful.

Physical therapy treatment will help to realign your pelvis, teach you good posture and body mechanics to protect your joints, as well as core exercises to stabilize and strengthen your pelvic area.  You may also be fitted with a sacroiliac belt for support.
