Urinary Retention

Urinary retention is when you are unable to urinate, despite urgency and bladder pressure.  This is a serious condition and should be evaluated immediately by your physician.

Difficulty with a slow urinary stream can be due to weak bladder contractions, obstructions within the urethra, urethral sphincter spasm, and/or tight pelvic floor muscles.

Once evaluated by your physician, physical therapy may help to retrain the pelvic floor muscles, work on relaxation techniques, and use various manual therapy techniques to reduce muscle tone and fascial restrictions.
