Stress incontinence is the leakage of urine due to abdominal pressure downward on the bladder that exceeds the ability to sustain closure of the urethra and prevent leakages. This often occurs with coughing, laughing, sneezing, and high impact activities. The pelvic floor muscles (supported by the deep core muscles of the trunk and hip) provide the main closure pressure around the urethra to sustain continence. Physical therapy can help you to retrain these muscles and gain continence. Stress Urinary Incontinence PDF
