About Us

Physical Medicine Center of Marin, with offices in Mill Valley and Novato, was founded by Lisa Iacovelli, PT and Michael Iacovelli, PT, DC.  Lisa Iacovelli, PT, PRPC was one of the first providers of comprehensive pelvic floor physical therapy services in Marin.

Our Philosophy
The evaluation is an ongoing process.  Evaluation, reassessment, and, if needed, redirection is an active and ongoing process during every treatment.  For this reason, the physical therapist is with you for your entire session.  This ensures that you will get the most value from each of your sessions, and the quickest recovery.  Using honed manual skills, biomechanical analysis, and neuromuscular reeducation, we diagnose and restore optimal movement patterns to allow the body to heal, and to prevent re-injury.  This is a much more sophisticated process than just setting you up on a home exercise program.

Each patient is an individual.
Our focus is to work with you to discover not only the cause of your pain or dysfunction, but also to learn more about how you, as an individual, can be supported in the healing process, in order to achieve the best results.  We do not follow protocols, but create a treatment plan and approach that will overcome obstacles, and help you to engage in a successful healing partnership with your therapist.

Education is empowering.
Understanding what is causing your pain or functional limitations, and how particular treatments and exercises will aid in your recovery is essential in helping you to become an active partner in your healing process.  This learning process is not only intellectual, but experiential...learning how it "feels" to stand, sit, move, or exercise in healthy ways.  This combination of first understanding and then integrating healthy habits and movement patterns into your daily activities will help you to (independently) maintain good physical health in the years to come.

Awareness is key to success.
Integration of good habits, posture, and movement patterns requires good awareness skills.  Slowing down, bringing awareness to your body, and using external and internal cues will help you to recognize when you are on the right or wrong track.  This will speed your recovery by allowing the therapeutic process to continue outside of the clinic and into all of your daily activities.

This all requires time and expertise.  Each of our therapists has well over 20 years experience in their individual disciplines, including manual therapy, orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, pelvic floor dysfunction, prenatal and postnatal care, chiropractic care, biofeedback, and Pilates-based rehabilitation.  In order to ensure the best results, we collaborate not only with each other in the clinic, but also with many excellent physicians and alternative health practitioners in our community to provide you with the most comprehensive care.

Insurance.
As a courtesy, we accept some medical insurances which adequately reimburse our time.  This is a constantly changing list.  Currently, we accept Visa, MasterCard, and payment plans.  We look forward to working with you.
